Recently, I was commissioned by ALTRAD to create a new library of imagery across several key sites, including Drax Power Station, Wilton, and Ellesmere Port. The aim was clear: move away from generic stock photography and showcase the real people who keep these critical operations running every day.
Industrial businesses often rely on stock imagery to represent their workforce, but stock photos can never truly capture the culture, expertise, and character of a company. ALTRAD wanted imagery that reflected their teams, their working environments, and the professionalism that defines their business.
Over several days on site, I
photographed engineers, technicians, supervisors, and specialist tradespeople carrying out their daily responsibilities. Rather than staged scenarios, the focus was on genuine moments—people collaborating, problem-solving, maintaining equipment, and working safely within complex industrial environments.
These photographs were designed to bring a human element to ALTRAD's website and communications. Visitors can now see the faces behind the company, creating a stronger connection with clients, potential recruits, and stakeholders. Authentic imagery helps build trust, demonstrating not only what a company does but who delivers it.

Working in active industrial environments always presents unique challenges. Safety protocols, operational requirements, and changing conditions require a flexible approach, but they also provide opportunities to capture the atmosphere and scale that make these locations so visually compelling.
The resulting image library gives ALTRAD a collection of bespoke photography that is uniquely theirs—images that cannot be found in a stock library and that accurately represent the people, skills, and commitment at the heart of the business.
In an age where authenticity matters more than ever, showing real people doing real jobs remains one of the most powerful ways for organisations to communicate who they are.
If your business is looking to replace stock imagery with professional photography that showcases your people, culture, and expertise, I'd be happy to discuss how we can create a visual story that reflects your organisation.
